| If West Pointy is one of your top choices, you must do this by
mid-October of your senior year of high school. |

| Do not procrastinate! West Point operates on a rolling admissions
cycle. This means that the quicker your file at West Point is COMPLETE, the sooner you can
be offered an appointment |
6. BE
MULTIDIMENSIONAL |
| West Point places a premium on the "whole person"
concept: academic excellence, demonstrated leadership skills, extracurricular activities,
and athletics are equally important. |

STANDARDIZED TESTS |
Take them until you feel that you have achieved your
personal best. West Point will consider your highest scores, regardless of the number of
times the tests are taken. Recent average scores are

LEADERSHIP ABILITY |
| West Point places an emphasis on leadership potential. Evaluations
submitted by teachers and coaches play a major role is assessing your leadership
abilities. Seek out opportunities to show that you are a leader. |

CLASS RANK |
| Very Important. Recently, 74% if those admitted ranked in the top
20% of their class. West Point also takes into consideration Honors and AP courses and the
percentage of students from your school who go to college. |
10.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES |
| Get involved. Don't join every club at school, but contribute
significantly to those which you enjoy and where you can make a difference. Holding a job
or office also counts. |
11.
ATHLETICS |
| 90% of entering Cadets are varsity letter winners. Softball and
water polo are just as important as football. Stay fit and participate in several sports
including team sports. If you can be a team captain, do so. |
12.
PHYSICAL APTITUDE EXAM |
| Practice the events before you take the exam. The events: Pull ups
(females: flexed arm hang). standing long jump, basketball throw from your knees, 300 yd
shuttle run (12 25 yard wind sprints) are not things you normally do every day. |
13.
MEDICAL EXAM |
| The exam must be performed at a designated military or
contracted facility. When notified to do so, set up an appointment immediately. You may be
asked to submit additional medical records or to take additional tests. If disqualified,
it is sometimes possible to obtain a waiver, but this takes additional time. |
14.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS |
(1) Be 17 to 22 years of age.
(2) Be single with no dependents
(3) Be a United States Citizen |
